Anderson Silva held the UFC middleweight championship belt for 2,458 days, but all it took was one stiff punch to the jaw — which Silva had stupidly invited by dancing around in the ring with his guard down — by Chris Weidman for his reign to end. The stunning knockout happened back on July 6, but the MMA world is still reeling.
It was just announced that Silva and Weidman will fight once again for the middleweight title on December 28 in Las Vegas. UFC president Dana White hyped the rematch as the “biggest fight in history.” He’s known for hyperbole, but it’s hard to call him out for that characterization.
