‘Sharknado’ > ‘Birdemic’ (TRAILER)

Those who’ve seen the landmark 2008 independent film Birdemic: Shock and Terror know it’s an achievement in storytelling that will never be surpassed… or will it?

Birdemic broke down barriers that had existed in the medium of film for a century — like never opening your film with three straight minutes of a blurry, shaky, off-kilter shot of a car slowly driving through boring terrain and never showing your main character silently commuting to work, stopping to get gas and then getting back on the busy highway to continue his commute — but its most lasting legacy will be the way it bombarded its main characters with wave after wave of crappy CGI birds. Truly innovative.

SyFy’s upcoming original movie Sharknado, which premieres Thursday, July 11 at 9 p.m. EST/PST appears to take Birdemic’s ball and run with it. Yes, there is horrible acting (that’s a given, considering the TV movie stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering). Yes, there are swarms of crappy CGI animals flying through the sky and tormenting these awful actors, for no apparent reason. What else could you ask for?

Just watch the damn trailer (which, for some reason I assume is too complex for my puny mind to comprehend, can only be embedded in this tiny size):

I’ll let the trailer voice-over take it from here. “Sharks. Tornado. Sharknado. ‘Nuff said.”

‘Nuff said, indeed.
