Aaron Rodgers Is Making a Cameo on ‘The Office’ This Week

NBC’s The Office wraps up its nine-year run with a two-part finale airing on May 16 (that’s next Thursday). Though most would agree the show long ago lost the magic that carried it through several years as television’s best comedy, it sounds like the show’s producers still have a surprise or two in store for the viewers who are sticking it out to the very end.

One of those surprises? A guest appearance by the NFL’s best player, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rodgers will appear on this Thursday night’s Office. It sounds like he’ll play himself in the cameo, with the scene revolving around a singing competition of which he is a judge.

It’s not entirely clear why a California boy (when he’s not in the tundra of Wisconsin with the Packers) Rodgers would be in Scranton, Pa. for a singing competition (or if the scene is even set in Scranton), but maybe it has something to do with Jim Halpert’s (John Krasinski) new sports marketing venture in Philadelphia — one of the more lame story arcs in the series’ lore.

Rodgers is known as one of the NFL’s funnier guys. His photobombs, in particular, are somewhat legendary. He has stated that hosting Saturday Night Live is a dream of his, so perhaps an appearance on an NBC sitcom is just what he needs to get his foot in the door.

Then again, maybe Lorne Michaels has seen Rodgers’ many commercials for State Farm Insurance and Pizza Hut and has decided against adding him to the list of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks who’ve hosted SNL (a list that includes Tom Brady and Peyton and Eli Manning). Rodgers may be an absolutely phenomenal quarterback, but he isn’t exactly a top-flight actor.
