Rumored Low-End iPhone Parts Leak, Look a Lot Like a White iPhone 3G (PHOTOS)

Despite nothing resembling an acknowledgment from Apple that the company is indeed planning to unveil a low-end iPhone either for developing nations or for Americans who can’t afford a normal iPhone, the rumor just won’t go away. Now, we have our first look at what may in fact be the shell of the budget iPhone.

The leaked image comes to us from the official website of Tactus, a phone case manufacturer with a decent record of leaking product images. The leaked photo depicts a polycarbonate shell that will allegedly serve as the body of the low-end iPhone.

The most notable thing about the shell is how similar it looks to the plastic shells found on the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. It’s not exactly the same, however. The 3G and 3GS had curved shells and this one appears to have a flat back — along the lines of the iPad Mini.

It’s also worth noting that the volume rocker is split in two — another difference from the 3G and 3GS. The buttons don’t appear to be round, like they are on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, but rather long and skinny ovals.

The folks at Tactus say this shell is a bit taller, wider and thicker than the iPhone 4, but shorter than the iPhone 5.

Based on the latest rumors, the low-end iPhone (man, it would sure be nice if the branded name of the product would leak, so we could all stop calling it “the low-end iPhone”) will have an A5 processor (same as the iPad Mini), a 3.5-inch retina screen (same as the iPhone 4) and a 5-megapixel camera (again, same as the iPhone 4).

There’s also a rumor making the rounds that the low-end iPhone will be available in white, black and, for the first time in the history of the iPhone, a number of other colors.

Of course, none of this is confirmed. The image above could be a fake or even a clever decoy on the part of Apple. Only time will tell. As of now, rumors suggest the release of this still-unnamed device will happen in the mid-fall.

Our suggestions for a potential name for the device:  iClone, iDrone, or iCan’tAffordaNicerPhone.
