You’ll Never See a More Ridiculous Free Kick Goal Than This Spinning Masterpiece (VIDEO)

For those unfamiliar with the sport of futsal, it’s the indoor cousin of football (soccer). It’s usually played indoors on a much smaller pitch than regular soccer, which means you don’t need to be in the same shape as a marathon runner to play the game at a high level because there really isn’t that much running.

This has led to a higher level of ball skills and attempted trickery in futsal than you see in soccer. The smaller pitch means that it’s much harder to win one-on-one battles with speed and endurance, so the most creative and technically adept players end up being the best players.

Every once in a while, you see a futsal player try something truly new and crazy. The video below is perhaps the best example of this you’ll ever see.

Brazilian player Falcão was fouled (kind of a weak foul, to be honest), giving him a free kick from close range. Rather than blasting a shot at the net, or trying to bend the ball around the defense, he busted out a move that has never been seen before in futsal/soccer/the universe.

It’s called the “spinning backheel lob” and it’s cheeky, risky and just straight-up awesome. Look at this:

The defenders and goaltender just stand there, dumbfounded by what just happened. It’s the kind of play that you never expect because the chance of it actually working isn’t usually enough to offset the risk of it failing and making you look like a complete ass. It worked, though, so Falcão deserves all the props that he’s getting right now. (And the Brazilian commentator deserves props for not screaming “goaaaaaaal” for 30 seconds like seemingly every other soccer commentating idiot).

Just don’t expect to see Lionel Messi or Christiano Ronaldo busting out a spinning backheel lob free kick any time soon.
