For everyone else, you will of course recall that this was one of the most entertaining shooters of the 1990s. Unlike id Software hits like Doom or Quake, which had an absorbing but oppressively serious vibe to them, Duke 3D wasn’t afraid to poke a little fun at the FPS genre.

It also offered a deeper and more interactive environment than any FPS before it — gamers could pay strippers for a look-see, turn on televisions (carrying footage of the OJ chase) and play pool. We could even flush toilets! Clearly, Duke 3D represented society’s high point. offers more than just old first-person shooters, however. Any aging gamer will appreciate its extensive library of classic games, include Theme Hospital, Baldur’s Gate, Fallout, SimCity 2000 and Pirates! Gold. Most cost just a few bucks.
