Need a Cheap but Decent Computer? Google Reveals $199 Acer C7 Chromebook

If you’re in the market for a super-cheap laptop computer, then Google and Acer might have the answer for you. Google has just announced the impending release of a new Chromebook built by Acer and running the Chrome operating system. It’s priced at just $199.

Known as the Acer C7 Chromebook, the device will reportedly go on sale this Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Those interested in the bargain can buy the C7 online at Google Play or by clicking over to

Best Buy has also revealed that it will be selling the C7 Chromebook at its brick and mortar locations, starting this week.

Now, before you run out and buy this thing, it’s important everyone recognize that the C7 features some pretty basic specifications. It comes with a relatively small 11.6-inch screen boasting a high-definition 1366 x 768 resolution display. It runs on an Intel Core processor, is one inch thick, and weighs just three pounds.

At 32 gigabytes, internal storage could present a problem. However, with USB storage drives plummeting in price these days (a 64GB stick can now be had for under $50 in many locations), that’s an easy-to-overcome issue.

Also, Google gives buyers access to 100GB of cloud storage. Data stored this way can be accessed from any computer.

The C7 also comes equipped with a high-definition camera, three USB 2.0 ports, and HDMI and VGA ports.

Battery life is just 3.5 hours.

Overall, an impressive machine for less than two Benjamins. It’s also a case of a cloud computing tutorial concerning what the next step of computers could be. The only really glaring issue is the storage capacity, but with portable hard drives and cloud storage options becoming cheaper every day, the C7 makes owning a capable computer more affordable than ever before.

  1. I think a more glaring issue is that it doesn’t run Windows 🙂 It’s running Chrome, which has very limited use outside of the web.

However, if that’s all you need, it’s a heck of a deal.

  2. Sweet blog! I found it while browsing on Yahoo News.

Do you have any suggestions on how to get listed in Yahoo News?

I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there!
    Many thanks
