Today’s New York Post Front Page Is Pretty Great (PHOTO)

The New York Yankees got blown out by the Detroit Tigers by a score of 8-1 last night, getting swept out of the American League Championship Series in the process.

The Yankees lost the game and the series, but it’s also fair to ask whether the franchise lost its identity over the course of the past week. Star shortstop Derek Jeter broke his ankle early in the series and his future as a professional baseball player is now in doubt. Highly-paid third baseman Alex Rodriguez was a huge disappointment behind the plate for the third consecutive post-season. The Yankees are an old team and could be in store for some radical personnel changes this coming off-season.

Off the field, Rodriguez’s actions–which included hitting on a pair of female fans during a game–caused a great deal of media turmoil and have led to speculation that the Yankees will do whatever they can to ship him out of town this off-season (even if that means eating a large percentage of the $100+ million he is still owed).

The front page of today’s New York Post, featuring a baseball with the message “Dear Yankees, We don’t date losers!” written on it in permanent marker. It’s safe to say that the image captures the mood of many New Yorkers pretty perfectly. It just as sarcastic and passive-aggressive as you’d expect a Post front page to be, but it’s also pretty clever. The graphic makes reference to A-Rod’s flirtations earlier in the series, when he reportedly sent two women sitting behind the dugout a ball with a request for them to write their phone numbers on it and send it back to him.
