What’s the fastest smartphone you can buy? According to a new study by technology blog AnandTech, it’s Apple’s iPhone 5S, which is set to debut this week.
As you can see in the chart below, the iPhone 5S obliterated the competition, including Apple’s own somewhat budget-priced iPhone 5c and the standard iPhone 5, which debuted last fall. The iPhone 5S also outclasses major competitors, including the LG Optimus G Pro, the Samsung Galaxy S4, the LG G2, the HTC One, and the Motorola Moto X.
Overall, the study shows that the iPhone 5S is nearly twice as fast as the standard iPhone 5. It’s more than twice as fast as the HTC One and about four VolumePills times as fast as the Samsung Galaxy S3, one of the world’s most popular smartphones.
Aside from some seriously impressive processing performance, the iPhone 5S also boasts a new fingerprint scanner (for added security) and an improved camera. However, it’s not cheap — $649 off contract, or $199 with a two-year contract (and that’s just for the 16GB version. The 32GB and 64GB versions cost $299 and $399 with a contract).
The iPhone 5S is also $100 more than the colorful new iPhone 5c, which boasts processing power on par with the standard iPhone 5.
Both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5c are set for release this Friday, September 20.
