Sony is reportedly working on a major gaming bundle that would package the upcoming PlayStation 4 with the company’s handheld device, the PlayStation Vita, for just $500. With the PlayStation 4 retailing for $399, that means gamers would get a Vita (which currently sells for $250) for just $100.
The report comes to us from VideoGamer.com, which claims a “well-placed, anonymous source” insists the package will be available before the end of 2013.
Bundling the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita certainly makes sense. Sony has already revealed that many PlayStation 4 games will be playable on the Vita through a feature called “Remote Play.” It’s not yet clear how many game developers will build games with Remote Play in mind, but you can bet many first-party titles (like first-person shooter Killzone and open-world action game Infamous) will use this feature.
Sony hasn’t yet confirmed or commented on the rumor.
The PlayStation 4 is set for a November 2013 release.
