Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the … tornado?
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that specialty channel Syfy has officially greenlit a sequel to the immensely successful (among Twitter users, at least) Sharknado, the television movie that first aired last week.
In an official statement, Syfy’s Executive Vice President of Programming and Original Movies had this to say: “Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun.”
Little is known about the plot of Sharknado 2, but does anyone really care about that? It will have sharks, tornados and, thus, sharknados. Plot doesn’t matter in the least.
The sequel will reportedly be set in New York City. No word on whether stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering will be back, but it’s safe to say the J-list actors aren’t already booked to do something more important.
Don’t expect Sharknado 2 to air until 2014 at the earliest.
