Is IKEA Really Advertising With a “Porn” Site?

Oh, those crazy Swedes. They’ll do anything to sell you some take-it-home-and-assemble-it-yourself furniture.┬áLiving down the street from an IKEA, I’ve come to appreciate the half-functional, half-novelty retailer.

This is the place where you can score a 99-cent breakfast — which isn’t terrible — only to learn that breakfast was the tractor beam from which you cannot escape. It’s nearly impossible to go into IKEA and not buy anything.

In a move to sell you more stuff without you having to go into an actual store, IKEA has ventured into a strange new territory. Or maybe IKEA hasn’t … I can’t really tell, and IKEA is saying nothing about their involvement.

Regardless, here’s the skinny: IKEA sells a bedroom suite called the Malm, and to cash in on the apparently growing trend of mom-porn, the Swedish furniture manufacturer has developed “hot malm” porn sites to show you pictures of some really sexy … beds.

That’s clever, right? Take the Internet and manipulate it against itself so that it might deliver a few more sales in beds. But then there are various clickable links such as “Hot Malm’s Bottom Stuffed,” “Twin Malms,” and a bunch of other stuff that’s cleverly funny — and totally classless.

Is IKEA actually the one behind this site? They kind of have to be, right?
