You can’t kill Twinkie the Kid. The dude is an icon. And he’ll be back on the shelves promoting Twinkie sales in mid-July.
It was a sad day for many Twinkie lovers when Hostess announced its second bankruptcy and declared its intent to sell off many popular brands. Many believed it to be the death of Twinkie the Kid, as well as the various Hostess delicacies, like chocolate Cupcakes, Donettes and Sno Balls, we’ve all come to love.
But not the wise among us. We knew that you just can’t kill off a chemically-charged food line in a nation full of gluttons and, of course, the gamers who need a little variety in their diets of Red Bull, Mountain Dew and Doritos from time to time.
After the great sell-off, the Twinkie brand was picked up by Metropoulos & Co. and Apollo Global Management. The new Twinkie boxes will be stamped with a bold proclamation: “The Sweetest Comeback in The History of Ever.”
Who can argue with that?
Metropoulos & Co. and Apollo Global Management plans to have the new Twinkies (with the same old taste, of course) back on the shelves by July 15th. They definitely missed a potential windfall with the upcoming Independence Day holiday, but maybe the bold statement accompanying their return is a polite way of stating Twinkies kind of deserve their own declaration of re-emergence.
Again, who can argue with that?
Twinkies will hit the shelves at the same price as when they left: $3.99 for 10 individually wrapped snacks.
