It’s been nearly a year since Disney dropped a cool $4 billion to buy George Lucas’ Lucasfilm and, with it, the rights to make Star Wars Episode VII (and probably dozens of other sequels and prequels, too). In the ensuing months, there’s been widespread speculation about what direction Mickey Mouse and company would take the franchise. Now, it appears we may finally have some hard facts to report.
The blog BleedingCool.com has just posted a list of character descriptions for Episode VII its editors claim is taken straight from an open casting call that started today over in the U.K., where the movie will be shot.
The descriptions appear to support the popular rumor that the protagonist of the film will be a teenage female — quite possibly the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia. In the expanded universe of Star Wars novels, that character exists and she’s named Jaina Solo Fel. However, the people at Disney have made it very clear they plan to go in a different direction than the novels.
All the other characters described in the casting call are vague enough that we can’t really draw any conclusions. But that surely won’t stop nerds around the globe from doing so!
Here’s the full list:
Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit.
Young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.
A late twentysomething male, fit, handsome and confident.
Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’ t need to be particularly fit.
A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.
Forty something male, fit, military type.
Thirtysomething male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit.
Even in a galaxy far, far away, all anyone seems to care about is how fit and attractive everyone else is.
