Comedian and actor Zach Galifianakis married charity founder Quinn Lundberg last summer, but he’s planning to bring a different woman as his date to the premiere of The Hangover Part III. It won’t be the first time he’s had this other woman on his arm at a major Hollywood event, either.
Her name is Elizabeth Haist, but she’s better known as Mimi to Galifianakis and the other Los Angeles residents who have encountered her over the years. Now 87, Mimi first met Galifianakis in the mid-’90s, when he was still a struggling stand-up comedian trying to make it in show business. At the time, she was volunteering at a laundromat and scraping by on the tips she earned. Galifianakis used to wash his clothing at that laundromat and the two hit it off, forming a close bond.
Galifianakis befriended her, but lost contact around the time of the immense success of the first Hangover film and the skyrocketing arc his career took. Two years ago, he learned that Mimi had become homeless.
After learning of her misfortune, Galifianakis got Mimi an apartment, which he pays the rent for. Renee Zellweger, another celebrity who befriended Mimi during her laundromat days, reportedly pitched in by furnishing the apartment and buying groceries.
Like he did at the premieres of The Hangover and The Hangover Part II, Galifianakis plans to be accompanied by Mimi to the premiere of The Hangover Part III’s upcoming premiere.
Here’s a video of the two of them arriving to the after-party for Part II:
