It wasn’t quite the Crips and the Bloods having it out on the streets of South Central Los Angeles, but it had the makings of a great gang war. Fortunately for those involved, but unfortunately for all of us who enjoy reading about nerds doing utterly ridiculous things, it never quite turned into the legendary rumble it had the potential to be.
Police had to be called in to a science fiction convention in Norwich, UK after fans of Doctor Who and Star Wars reportedly started fighting. The two groups have had a bit of a rivalry over the years, but had never previously come to blows.
According to witnesses, the Doctor Who fans were lining up to get autographs from two of the actors from their favorite show, as those who attend cons often do, when they clashed with fans of Disney’s hottest new acquisition.
As one might expect, many of the fans were in costume. No word on whether any lightsabers or sonic screwdrivers were used as weapons, but they had to have been, right?
After reviewing the videotape, police determined that no one was physically hurt and no changes were pressed.
One member of the Doctor Who fan club described the ordeal as “sad and pathetic.”
“The two rival groups were spoken to and advised to keep out of each other’s way,” a police spokesperson said.
