The singer of the heavy metal band As I Lay Dying was arrested near San Diego yesterday on charges of plotting to kill his wife. Tim Lambesis is currently in police custody. He is expected to appear in court for an arraignment today or tomorrow.
In a statement made by the San Diego County Sheriff’s department, it was revealed that authorities became aware of Lambesis’ desire to find an assassin to carry out the murder of his estranged wife late last week. It appears that he encountered an undercover detective while searching for a killer-for-hire and that’s what led to his arrest.
No further details about why Lambesis wanted his wife dead were revealed, as police said the investigation is still underway.
In September of last year, Lambesis’ wife Meggan filed divorce papers. The estranged couple hgas three children — two daughters and a son — all of whom are adopted from Ethiopia.
Lambesis is a Christian (a loose one, at least, following this news) who has spoken publicly about his faith and how he uses the teachings of Jesus to inspire his song lyrics.
This lyric in particular, from the 2012 song “Cauterized,” seems strangely fitting now, given Lambesis’ arrest and incarceration:
I’m caught between the feeling of being pulled apart or stuffed into a cell.
