It looks like we may be playing a new Gran Turismo this coming fall. A retail game listing has revealed Gran Turismo 6 could be available this November.
United States-based online electronics retailer Newegg.com recently listed Gran Turismo 6 on its website with a release date of November 28, 2013. As you might expect, the price is set at $59.99.
The site shows the game will be available for the PlayStation 3 but there’s no mention of a PlayStation 4 version. However, industry insiders are suggesting the PS4 version of Gran Turismo 6 — along with the PlayStation 4 hardware — could be ready before late November.
Newegg.com has since adjusted the page, replacing the Gran Turismo 6 listing with an “Out of Stock” message.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about GT6. In a recent interview, Sony executive Michael Denny suggested the popular simulation racing game would be available before the end of 2013.
All in all, it’s surprising to see a new Gran Turismo so soon. Gran Turismo 5, released in late 2010, took five years to complete. That means makers Polyphony Digital and Sony Computer Entertainment have slashed the development cycle in half.
This will be, arguably, one of the most important Gran Turismos yet. Why? For one, it will be used to help sell the new PlayStation 4. Getting a leg up on competition from Microsoft will be critical for Sony in those early months and an exclusive title like GT6 could help the Japanese firm outsell its main rival.
Second, the Gran Turismo franchise needs to bounce back. The last game in the series received good, but not great, reviews. As a result, in the eyes of many gamers, Gran Turismo has given up the sim-based racing crown to its primary rival, the Xbox-exclusive Forza Motorsport series.
