This ain’t no April Fool’s Joke: Halo 4 and Gears of War: Judgment players can now access free maps and multiplayer modes via Xbox Live.
According to reports, the Halo 4 content is a massive new multiplayer map known as Forge Island. It features three huge islands known as Great Anvils in a tropical environment reminiscent of DICE’s Battlefield 1943 or Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3.
Microsoft says Forge Island will be the basis for a Forge Mode customization and the download can be accessed via Xbox Live Marketplace or Halo 4‘s in-game download store.
But that’s not all: buyers of the recently released Gears of War: Judgment can also reportedly download a free map, known as Haven. Thanks to a shared promotion between Maxim Magazine and Epic Games, gamers will also have access to a new and very free multiplayer mode called Execution.
Execution plays a lot like the Warzone mode available in the first three Gears games. The goal is to eliminate everyone on the opposing team before time expires, but there’s a catch: every kill must come with a one-shot execution. Otherwise, players will have the opportunity to re-enter the action.
Unlike the Halo 4 Forge Island deal, the Execution/Haven offer is only available for a limited time.
So, has anyone checked out these maps and modes? Are they any good?
