Hey basketball fans!
Do you have the madness? The March madness? Maybe you’re not really a fan of college ball… but what if I told you there was a team playing a very NBA/Euro-style game?
If you caught any of the 80 minutes played by Florida Gulf Coast University in the first two rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, you’re probably ready for Friday’s action to roll around quickly. Every time this team has the ball, it’s exciting — just pure potential. Don’t believe me? Check this out.
Who are these guys?!
After shocking everyone by upsetting No. 2 seed Georgetown, the high flying Eagles of FGCU put together a second-half run to dispatch No. 7 seed San Diego State University. The rookie tournament team, hailing from Fort Myers, Fla., will take on #3 seed Florida on Friday.
I’ll admit, I’m giddy about this team. They are a legitimate, energetic, exciting and a host of other adjectives. They’re also a very diverse basketball team, and seeing them flow together is a thing of beauty. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the Eagles will handle the full-court pressure of the Florida Gators.
FGCU head coach, Andy Enfield — who once served as an NBA shooting instructor under Mike Dunleavy and Rick Pitino — stated that he asked for a little scrimmage with the Gators early in the season, but the two squads couldn’t get it together. I guess they’ll have finally have their opportunity to mix it up once Easter weekend rolls around.
