The sound was like a “car crash” coming from the bedroom of Tampa area resident, Jeffrey Bush. According to his family, the 36-year-old screamed out in the middle of the night, then everything went silent. When the family approached the room, they walked in to see a scene out of a disaster movie.
A sinkhole had developed beneath the home and gave it way, swallowing Jeffrey’s bedroom. His brother, Jeremy Bush, went into the hole in an attempt to retrieve his brother. Unfortunately, he could not locate him in the hole, which has been estimated to be 30 feet wide and 20 feet deep. Authorities have stated that the entire house is sitting on ground that could give way at any point.
Offering an interview to local Tampa media outlets, Jeremy struggled through tears, stating “I just wanted to get my brother back… That’s all I wanted. I couldn’t do anything. Everything in the room was gone.” When authorities arrived, they were able to pull Jeremy from the hole, yet could find no sign of his brother in the darkness and mess.
Search and rescue teams have implemented audio and video technology in an effort to locate Jeffrey beneath a mix of furniture and earth. They haven’t given up hope that he could be alive, yet they are not optimistic. The instability of the ground has adversely affected the search process. Additional specialists have been called in to assist the attempts to locate Jeffrey.
