It sounds like something out of a Hollywood movie — perhaps Ocean’s 14 — but it happened for real early this morning and it doesn’t sound like the good guys are walking away unscathed and with millions in stolen cash. Instead, three people are dead after a Maserati and an SUV engaged in a gunfight while speeding down the Las Vegas strip.
At about 4:30 a.m., witnesses report seeing a Maserati and a large SUV open fire on each other at the corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas boulevards on the strip, a corner adjacent to some of the biggest casinos and resorts in the city, including Caesars Palace and the Bellagio.
The Maserati reportedly tried to make a hasty exit and ended up crashing into a taxi, sparking a fire and killing three people and injuring at least three more. The SUV reportedly drove off and has yet to be located. Other vehicles were also involved in the crash, according to some reports.
One witness told KLAS-TV in Las Vegas that the crash created a “fireball.”
Two of the victims are reported to be the taxi driver and a passenger in the taxi — innocent bystanders, in other words. Someone in the Maserati, perhaps the driver, is reported to be the other fatality.
