Rockstar Games just announced on its official blog the release date for its hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V. The game will hit stores on September 17.
For those keeping track, that’s 299 days from today. It’s roughly 5,500 hours. In other words, it’s going to be an excruciatingly long wait — but the end is finally in sight.
Rockstar initially indicated that it wanted to ship the game in the spring, but it appears the games studio is a bit behind schedule. We’ll just assume they needed a few extra months to jam a bit more violence into the game.
“[T]rust us, it will be worth the extra time,” the official release states. “GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”
Only the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of GTAV have been confirmed to ship in September — there’s still no word on when PC gamers might see the game. In fact, we don’t even have confirmation that Rockstar is working on a PC version.
