A new Uncharted game sounds really exciting, right? Each game in the adventure trilogy from Naughty Dog, starring the charismatic Nathan Drake, is among the best of the current console generation.
So, when the official YouTube channel for PlayStation dropped a trailer for a new Uncharted game the other day, fans had every reason to be excited. Details about the game were hard to come by. No one was expecting a full-featured game — Uncharted 3 came out only a year ago — but something along the lines of an expansion pack like the recent Dragonborn DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim seemed possible.
Nope. It’s just a virtual card game for the PSVITA — a device that some think is nearly dead, despite the fact it was only released earlier this year. This looks like a clear case of Sony trying to milk every dollar it can out of one of its premier franchises.
Unsurprisingly, fans of Uncharted are not happy. Here’s a quick look at some of the top comments on the trailer on YouTube:
Are you f*cking kidding me – nicolas palomba
What in the Sully’s mustache name is this?!?! – 12slan
Dislike, flag for terrorism. – l0l0l0lTONYl0l0l0l
To be fair, Uncharted: Fight for Fortune will sell for a very reasonable $4.99 when it launches on December 4. Sony says it will have at least some connectivity with Uncharted: Golden Abyss, the PSVITA version of Uncharted.
Still, it’s difficult to see a game that strips all the action and adventure out of Drake’s world and replaces it with what is essentially a Yu-Gi-Oh! rip-off in a positive light.
