Great fighters possess a great ability to defend themselves. When planning an offensive attack, you’ve got to defend your instrument of destruction. Right?

MMA guys. What’s the first thing they tell you when you begin to spar? Boxers? Martial artists? First thing. You’ve got to protect yourself. “Protect yourself at all times.” I know I’ve heard that. And I’m pretty sure that the referee says that everyone before the bout begins, right? Your ability to defend yourself is your ability to continue an organized bout.

I have no idea where this video is from, but it’s a cross between WTF comedy, and athletic awesome.

Let’s analyze. Because this is definitely worthy of analysis.

We’ve got one guy who thinks he’s the toughest man in the world vs. another guy who looks to be focused on the fight. Big boy seemed to think it was the WWE, or a lower budget version of wrestling “entertainment.” I will admit, he took a couple glancing blows, and a kick that landed at the end of its extension…a kick that landed on his epic, built-in neck roll. Remember those?

At that moment, big boy thinks the fight is over–he has taken the other dude’s best shot. Either that, or he really has no clue of how to properly defend himself. So, he offers the most fragile point on his body to a straight left from other dude. Fist, meet chin. Chin, fist. Goodnight.
