Oops.
Some of this stuff is getting hard to watch. The cross of boos and cheers as the PA Announcer presents David Stern and Miami Heat management together. Now that’s some PR strategy.
The criss-cross of boos and cheers? I guess that would result in beers? OK, so maybe that’s not so bad. But David Stern–sweet mercy, man!?
The Commissioner is certainly retiring at the appropriate time. He’s just walking through the motions, taking direction.
Producer: Mr. Commissioner, be sure to offer condolences for the hurricane victims.
David Stern: There was a hurricane?
Just before the presentation of the NBA Championship rings to the Miami Heat, David Stern paused to reflect…on a hurricane that occurred a day ago. Or was it 7 years ago? It’s really hard to keep those things straight. Katrina, Sandy…they were both heinous B’s.
And the crowd in Miami, completely familiar with the word hurricane–you just can’t mess around when you’re in such company. And David Stern messed around. Now, we’re all making him pay for it.
In all fairness, he misspoke. Fine. It wasn’t that big of a faux pas, or was it?
If you were there, would you have booed? Mumbled? Or started the chant: San-Dy! San-Dy!?
