With The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale retired from the world of Batman movies. Their legacy will live on indefinitely, but the character of Batman isn’t going to retire from movies along with them.
There will be a new Batman on the big screen before long and, if recent reports are true, he just might be played by the guy who played the twins in The Social Network.
His name is Armie Hammer and Moviehole is reporting that Warner Bros. is in hot pursuit of him to play Bruce Wayne in the upcoming movie about the Justice League. As we have previously reported, the as-yet unnamed Justice League movie is expected to give us our first glimpse of the post-Christian Bale Batman.
Hammer has previously been cast as Batman for a Justice League flick, but that production was killed by the writers strike of 2007. At the time, he said he “loved” the idea of being Batman, so chances are he’s be up for another go-around now.
Moviehole says that the Batman actor who appears in the upcoming Justice League movie won’t necessarily be the same actor who portrays the Caped Crusader in a new series of Batman films. Perhaps the studio is viewing it as a trial run for Hammer, or whomever they ultimately cast for the role. If audiences accept him as the new Batman, then the franchise will be his to run with. If audiences don’t feel he stacks up to the Bale Batman they were used to, then the studio might decide to go in a new direction (or throw boatloads of money at Bale).
Casting for the upcoming Justice League movie, which will include not only Batman, but also Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern, isn’t expected to take place for several more months at the earliest.
Do you think Hammer would make a good Bruce Wayne?
