Darelle Revis Out For The Year With Torn ACL

At his press conference this afternoon, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan revealed that his team’s star cornerback, Darelle Revis, tore his ACL in yesterday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Revis will be placed on the injured reserve list and he will not play again in 2012.

The injury is a crushing blow to the Jets. Revis is widely considered to be the best defensive back in football, if not the best defensive player in the game.

After the swelling in his knee goes down, Revis will undergo surgery to repair his torn ACL. If his rehabilitation goes as expected, he should be ready to play again in time for the start of the 2013 NFL season.

The Jets sit at 2-1, but they play the 49ers, Texans and Patriots in three of their next four games. Making the playoffs looks unlikely for New York’s second-most successful franchise.
