Fiona Apple, who is on tour promoting her new album, The Idler Wheel, was arrested in the great state of Texas for possession of marijuana. According to authorities, she had a small amount of pot and hashish.
Nah. They aren’t the same thing. And they aren’t the same crime in the state of Texas. Pot scored her a misdemeanor charge, but the hash, a stronger version of marijuana made from the resin of the plant, is considered a felony. This meant that Fiona was arrested by the local Sheriff’s department, and transported to Hudspeth County Jail, where they put her in black and whites and captured her mug.
You knew Fiona was a little thing, but did you know she was just 5’1″? She is. She’s tiny. But looking fabulous on tour. And pissed off in her mug shot. Well…pissed off or asleep.
Fiona enjoying herb is anything but news, but the fact that her tour manager didn’t think to ask about illegal substances when approaching a Texas border checkpoint is a little confusing. You know who you’re representing…a bunch of musicians. Wouldn’t you think to let everyone know: Hey, we’re gonna be around some border patrol agents and drug sniffing dogs–be sure you’ve parted with anything that could land you in the clink.
Fiona was released on bond today, and it’s my understanding that she’ll still be onstage at Austin City Limits tonight. Of all the shows I wish I could go to…
