Brian Scalabrine Turns Down Job Coaching The Bulls To Do Commentary For Celtics Games

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, semi-retired basketball player Brian Scalabrine has decided to turn down a job that see him join the Chicago Bulls’ coaching staff. Instead, he will work as an analyst for CSN New England.

It’s a bit of a curious move by Scalabrine. He’s only set to do color commentary on 11 Celtics games this coming season, as well as doing some work as a studio analyst. Scalabrine described the position as a “trial run.”

Perhaps Scalabrine wants to leave himself open to the possibility of continuing his playing career. He says that he’s had “zero opportunities” at another playing position in the NBA, but that he is open to the possibility of playing for a team overseas.

If Scalabrine had accepted a coaching position, it likely would have signaled the end of his playing days. He may realize that he has the rest of his life to enter coaching, but the chance to forge a career in broadcasting–and the slim chance that he will get to play again–is just too much to pass up at this time.
