Why Lance Armstrong’s Situation is Sad For All of Us

Man. I feel like there should be a guy named John Proctor involved in all of this. For now, he’ll have to be played by Lance Armstrong. The decorated cyclist, and present triathlete, who by all accounts is now being considered guilty by the court of public opinion. Well. I should say former triathlete, shouldn’t I? Because Lance Armstrong has been banned for life.

To be official:

The USADA–United States Anti-Doping Agency–will ban Lance Armstrong for life, from any sanctioned, international competition, and will strip his 7 Tour de France victories. This…because he tested positive for doping.

Oh. No. You’re right. He didn’t test positive for doping. There is no evidence beyond hearsay regarding what he did, didn’t do, maybe did, probably did… This is just an absolute mess! Here we are, Americans, being told that someone we all admired is a cheater. In fact, the vast majority have heard enough to believe that yes, winning 7 Tours was just too much to believe possible. And Lance, well…Lance has never really just said, “I never doped. I never performed an illegal transfusion to increase my RBC…” has he? Or…has he?

Even if Lance did cheat…which most of you reading this probably believe he did. Has he ever failed a test? And what is the standard of government within the USADA?

What we do know is that this government led, non-profit, taxpayer-funded organization is exacting a punishment based on what may be evidence, but not any evidence that has been shared with those most desirous–beginning with Armstrong, and trickling down to us…the suckers who are funding this very operation.

It’s crap. It’s all crap.

  1. innocent until proven guilty. He’s never been proven guilty but the USDA has been forgiving other cyclists (those that are guilty) if the testify against Armstrong. This is plain and simple a witch hunt. If he was on drugs he would have been caught, just like the rest of them. Simple. He’s fed up, out of the sport, and at this point I don’t think any of us can blame him for doing what he’s doing. They will never believe him to be innocent.
