Augusta National Golf Course Admits First Female Members

Well, Welcome to the 20th century in the 21st century. Augusta National Golf Club has finally caved, and has welcomed their first two female members, one of whom is none other than former Secretary of State, and supercrush of the late Mummar Gadafi, Condoleezza Rice. Good ole Condi. The other is South Carolina businesswoman, Darla Moore.

Congrats ladies. You cracked the code.

I have never been one to knock a private club for disallowing women to join–if it’s considered a men’s club, I get it. But it wasn’t. It was considered a National Golf Club. And, considering that women outnumber men in terms of world population, and within the United States, it makes sense that this national club has a couple of female members. The fact that both are powerful, Republican women…? Eh. Not much of a surprise, there.

In order to be considered for membership in the club, you have to go through quite the selection process. It’s not like many country clubs where you show up, prove you can pay the dues, are generally liked by the people you meet, then you’re welcomed as a new member–no, it’s not like that at all. If your status doesn’t massage the myth of the club, you’re not gettin’ in. Not unless you’ve got game that places you in elite company.
