Man U To Sign Robin Van Persie From Arsenal In £24m Deal

Robin Van Persie is leaving Arsenal. He’s heading up the road to rivals Manchester United.

The two English Premiere League clubs have agreed to a deal that would see the star striker transferred from the Gunners to the Red Devils. The fee has reportedly been agreed upon–it’s said to be £24 million, or roughly $37.8 million U.S. dollars.

Van Persie still has has one year left on his contract with Arsenal, but he issued a statement earlier this year saying that he had no plans to sign another contract with the club. That left Arsenal with little choice but to get as much as possible for him and move on.

Reports indicate that Van Persie and Man U have yet to agree on a new contract for the player, but that should be little more than a formality. The difficult part of the deal, negotiating the transfer fee with Arsenal, is said to be done. Assuming Van Persie can pass his physical (perhaps not a lock, but still very likely), the deal will be finalized.

It will be very interesting to see the reaction that Van Persie gets when he returns to Emirates Stadium as a member of the enemy. It’s not often that a player of his caliber leaves one club to play for a rival in the same league.
