This sounds pretty appropriate for the political realm. It seems to be a worldwide idiocy. Politicians accidentally shooting friends. Nothing better than not-so-tricky Dick Cheney dropping the boom on some hunting buddies, but at least he didn’t kill anyone…within the public eye.
This tragedy struck in Thailand, when Boonsong Kowawisarat, a senator from the Mae Hong Son province, was out to eat with his secretary, who some news outlets are reporting as a cousin, while others have stated ex-wife. Maybe she was both. Boonsong was allegedly trying to adjust a loaded 9mm Uzi within a carrying case when he discharged the weapon, shooting Chanakarn Detkard in the stomach while she ate her dinner.
Authorities were uncertain as to why the senator was armed in the first place, especially with a submachine gun. A medical team responded to the accidental shooting, and attended to Ms. Detkard, yet she died shortly after being wounded.
I’m not a Thailand political pundit by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I can only factually state that my education of Thailand goes no further than research and an affinity for the amazing, cultural culinary dishes. However. Doesn’t this seem odd? Accident? Ex-wife? With an Uzi? Even as an accident, the Thai senator could face up to 10 years in prison, along with a whopping $636 fine.
