Seven Cameroon Athletes Disappear From Olympics Under Mysterious Circumstances

Olympic officials say that seven athletes from the nation of Cameroon have disappeared from the Olympic village.

The seven includes five boxers, a swimmer and a backup goaltender for the women’s soccer team. The goalie, Drusille Ngako, was the first to go. The swimmer, Paul Ekane Edingue, was next. The boxers, Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo, all disappeared on Sunday. All five boxers had been eliminated from Olympic competition.

Though the disappearance is mysterious, there is no reason to suspect foul play at this time. It is suspected that the seven athletes have simply decided to remain in Europe, rather than return home to Cameroon after the Olympics are over.

Earlier this year, an Olympic torchbearer from Ethiopia, 15-year-old Natnael Yemane, disappeared from a hotel in England.

It’s not unusual for visiting athletes to attempt to stay in the host nation after the Olympics.
