Today’s game against the U.S. women’s soccer team didn’t go so well for New Zealand. The Kiwis lost by the score of 2-0 and they are out of the Olympics with no medal.
Things were exceptionally bad for New Zealand goalkeeper, Jenny Bindon. Early in the game, Bindon got a slight kick to the face from U.S. player Abby Wambach. She stayed down for a few moments, but was able to continue.
Late in the game, things got significantly worse for Bindon. A U.S. midfielder sent in a long pass and Bindon got to the ball at the same time as Alex Morgan. Morgan tried to jump over her, but ended up drilling Bindon in the face with her knee. It was just a brutal collision. Bindon stayed down on the field and the referee frantically began signaling for the medics. Take a look:
Here’s an image that captured the exact moment that Bindon’s face got jacked up:
Bindon finished the game like a warrior, though she probably should have been issued a red card for sticking her face in the way of Morgan’s knee.
