NBC has come under a lot of fire for insisting on televising major London 2012 Olympic events on a tape delay. In the age of Twitter, savvy fans are well aware of the results long before NBC shows them. In most other countries around the world, events air live. Not in the U.S., however. NBC cites its ratings as the reason is makes Americans wait to watch events on delay.
Last night, NBC took things to a new level. The network teased viewers with its upcoming coverage of American swimmer Missy Franklin’s quest to win her first gold medal (which had happened earlier in the day). Before showing the race, the network cut to commercial. During the commercial break, a promo for NBC’s Today show aired, hyping an exclusive interview with gold medal winner, Missy Franklin.
