When the Tennessee Titans opened up training camp over the weekend, receiver OJ Murdock was a no-show. The team said that he had been excused from camp for personal reasons, but Titans head coach Mike Munchak indicated that he was expected at camp today.
That will not be happening.
Sadly, police in Tampa have revealed that Murdock was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot would this morning. He shot himself in his car, in front of the high school he attended.
Murdock was discovered at about 8:30 this morning. He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:43. He was 25 years old.
Murdock was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Titans last season. He was a long-shot to make the team in 2012.
Murdock played his college football at South Carolina, where he was a teammate of Kenny McKinley, a Denver Broncos wide receiver who committed suicide in 2010.
