It’s hard to deny that the lineup Kanye West has assembled for his GOOD Music collective is the best in hip hop. The crew appears together on the cover of the August/September issue of Complex magazine, in advance of the September 4th release for their debut album, Cruel Summer.
Arranged to look like a crucifix on a black background, West appears alongside Common, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Q-Tip, 2 Chainz, Big Sean and John Legend.
In the cover article, the crew is described as “the strongest lineup in the rap game.” Everyone except West (who is refusing to speak to the press) took part in a round-table interview for the article. “We dress the best, we rap the best, we sing the best, we look the best,” boasted Big Sean (arguably the member of the crew who is furthest from being the “best”).
In the article, 2 Chainz discusses his unique arrangement with GOOD (he’s signed to Def Jam, but says he has a “great rapport” with West).
Another interesting nugget that emerged from the interview is that Pusha T says he passed on the beat for “N*ggas In Paris.” That one has to hurt. The song, of course, went on to be a huge hi–to the point where West and Jay-Z were performing it more than ten times in a row at live shows.
