Mermaids Have Never Actually Existed? (VIDEO)

There’s been a bit of confusion since Animal Planet aired Mermaids: The Body Found. The show is a part of Discovery Channel’s Monster Week.

The work is fictional, as you can tell from the digitally recreated video below, but it left viewers scratching their heads and asking, Wait a minute, are mermaids and merman for real?!?

Mermaids: The Body Found got so much attention that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminstration (NOAA) had to release an official statement, basically saying that, Nope, mermaids have never actually existed.

“No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found,” says NOAA. Yet why do these creatures occupy the imaginations of so many? “That’s a question best left to historians, philosophers, and anthropologists,” added NOAA.

“Though the filmmakers acknowledged that the film is science fiction,” stated Discovery News, it was created almost as an homage to X-Files. The show was filmed in a documentary style with digital and real footage, state-of-the art animation, conspiracy theory, and historical facts.

It was also sprinkled with scientific speculation and real science which made the show “wildly convincing” for many viewers.

So there you have it, mermaids have never actually existed… maybe?
