In honor of her Diamond Jubilee, the Parliment Tower that has affectionately been known as Big Ben for years and years will now be officially named Elizabeth Tower. This is in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the throne. Her Diamond Jubilee! Did I mention that already? Woopity-doo! We’ve been hearing about it, and seeing it for weeks now! Jubilee! Olympics!
Not to make light. It is a tremendous achievement of birthright, and something that we should all aspire to. That having been said, let’s clear up a little misunderstanding so no one begrudges the Queen for such an act. For starters, she had nothing to do with. So, don’t fault her. Quite frankly, there’s nothing to worry about. The fact remains, the tower itself has never been named Big Ben. Big Ben is actually the massive bell within the clock tower, which until being named after the Queen was officially named…Clock Tower. Seriously.
Unlike the Hebrew term Jubilee, this year of Jubilee celebration has nothing to do with debts forgiven, or anything quite that awesome. Just a reminder that the Queen has been rocking out for an epic 60 years. The Diamond Jubilee! So. Instead of Big Ben, it’ll be The Bell Big Ben in Elizabeth Tower, which sounds like a really fantastic indie rock band that would most certainly perform at the Isle of Wight festival…in honor of the Queen’s…Diamond Jubilee!
