Dredd Trailer Debuts, Borrows More Than A Little Of The Dark Knight’s Aesthetic (VIDEO)

Remember that crappy Judge Dredd movie from the ’90s starring Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider? This one. Hollywood is ready to try to make amends for it.

The reboot is called Dredd and it hits theaters on September 21st. The film stars Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy in Star Trek) as the titular character and Lena Headey (Cersei on Game of Thrones) as the primary villain.

The trailer just dropped. Check it out:

To say that this trailer is biting the aesthetic of the Christopher Nolan Batman films would be an understatement. The music sounds like a cheap rip-off of the music in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Karl Urban sounds like he’s doing a crappy impression of Christian Bale as Batman. The plots are obviously quite different, as Dredd takes place in the future, but the tone is noticeably similar.

The idea of a drug that slows down time to one percent of normal is kind of cool. At the very least, it should create some great slow-motion visuals in the film (which was shot in 3D).

What do you think? Are you excited for this movie?
