The Atlanta megachurch pastor, and televangelist who enjoys a monster public following, was arrested early today, after a family argument escalated to physicality. Dollar was arguing with his 15 year old daughter about a party, and during the argument the two apparently got physical with one another.
After the argument, the 15 year old contacted authorities, who responded to find that the girl had “superficial injuries.” Her 19 year old sister served as a witness to the authorities who responded, and Creflo Dollar was taken into custody. He was released later from Fayette County jail, on bond, and released the following statement.
“As a father I love my children and I always have their best interest at heart at all times, and I would never use my hand to ever cause bodily harm to my children. The facts in this case will be handled privately to further protect my children. My family thanks you for your prayers and continued support.”
I wonder how awkward the homecoming was? Or I could be less cynical, and state that I imagine he and his daughter in tears together…both feeling pretty terrible about the crap that went down. But then–with such rhetoric, I simply wouldn’t fit well into the modus operandi of 2012.
For Dollar, he has already been tried in the court of public opinion. That’s how fast it happens. No doubt, you can’t put your hands on your children these days, and shouldn’t maliciously, regardless of the level of insurrection, but you can certainly pull their lucrative financial benefits of your wealth from their bedroom, pockets and purses–that’s what I’d suggest to Dollar in the future, if he’s unwilling to waver from his stance.
The pastor, who is incredibly wealthy, and whose real last name is Dollar, loves to preach prosperity to the church parishioners, though he states that prosperity isn’t simply about money. He renounced any salary offered by the 30,000-plus member, World Changers Church International, and instead lives off of investments. Scratch that–lives well off of investments. Regardless, it’s a sad situation anytime a disagreement escalates to a point of no return. I hope they’re able to patch up their differences.
It’s a shame that a person can’t tell their “child” that they can’t go to a party without the child not respecting the parent enough to just sulk & take it. She probably got smart mouth with him. Some of them need to be slapped in the mouth because they think they know it all. Notice people I said “SLAP” not punched. I never slapped mine in the mouth, but if they had smarted off I might have. When I told mine “no”, they knew I meant no. Of course they weren’t spoiled brats either. Which those two probably are(the 15 y/y & the 19 y/o).
