These awesome guys took a wooden chest resembling a pirate’s treasure chest (though some people said it looked more like something from Harry Potter) and buried it in the sand in Venice Beach in the middle of the night. The next day, they went back with meta detectors and “discovered” the chest. Then, they dug it up and a huge crowd gathered around them to see what all the fuss was about. When they finally opened it up, it was chaos.
Take a look at this awesome prank:
The whole prank almost fell apart when the lifeguard/security guard asked the guys to stop digging and not to open the chest. Working on the beach, she would have known that people are constantly patrolling with metal detectors and there is no way anyone would find real, undiscovered pirate treasure. Frankly, she was probably worried that the chest was full of much more ominous “treasure,” such as human remains.
The guys managed to avoid completely ruining the prank, though, and the crowd went crazy when the chest was finally opened and the “gold” was revealed. Frankly, the crowd kind of turned violent at that point. I suppose that’s what happened when people think gold is up for grabs.
No one seemed too upset to find out that the supposed treasure was just chocolate. It’s hard to get upset about such a good prank.
