G.I. Joe Retaliation Bumped to 2013

Were you excited to slide G.I. Joe 2 into your summer movie schedule after Prometheus and before The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises? Probably not. Yeah. It’s just a bit much. There are a lot of options and opportunities…vacations and barbecuing that will require some summer funds. Paramount gets it. They’re pretty smart over there on the mountain. There is simply too much invested in the sequel to 2009′s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, to lose it trying to compete with with heavyweights. G.I. Joe is more of light-heavyweight.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been bumped to March 29, 2013. This is a good move. Paramount is hoping to hit decently domestically with this popcorn flick, and pushing an action movie starring Bruce Willis the post-Oscar exhaustion is the right move to make. While G.I. Joe 2.0 should be a marked improvement on the first film, it would be far too much to expect it to compete with the aforementioned blockbusters. I’m still curious about The Amazing Spider-Man. Anyone else think that it was too soon to introduce a new franchise of an “old” franchise that was introduced just over a decade ago?

And I really pity anyone who tackles Batman after Christopher Nolan finishes his saga.

All doubts aside, back to Yo, Joe! The sequel will now be moved to a 3D format for the March 2013 release. So, get your tickets now…..?
