So, it’s worth noting that Jay Glazer took to his Twitter account this afternoon to report that he has been told the name of the winning bidder in the auction for Lawrence Taylor’s Super Bowl ring (if you are umfamilar with the story behind why his ring is being auctioned off in the first place, you can read that here).
The winning name? Charlie Sheen.
We came so tantalizingly close to never having to hear Sheen’s name again. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The former sitcom star is back in the news.
Sheen is known for his love of sports memorabilia. In fact, he reportedly once bought over 2,600 tickets to a baseball game so he would have a good chance of catching a home run ball. In 1992, he purchased the ball that rolled between Bill Buckner’s legs in the 1986 World Series for more than $90,000.
Though this particular rumor is unconfirmed at this point, would it really surprise anyone if Sheen dropped tens of thousands of dollars on a beat up, old Super Bowl ring–and one that was previously owned by a renowned lover-of-cocaine like LT? Of course not.
