Lolo Jones, aka Lori Jones, former LSU track superstar and current international track superstar, insists that she will remain a virgin until she’s married. And why shouldn’t she? You work incredibly hard to achieve a goal, and you would expect the same from anyone who wants to share in your most intimate gift. Unfortunately, few people see it as a gift that is precious or to be cherished. Yeah. You didn’t expect a Manolither to side with a Lolo, did ya?
I’ve been a fan of Lori for a long time–too long to sell her out. I’m sure it’s tough enough to keep dudes out of your britches. No need to offer more comments from the peanut gallery. According to Jones, many men she has been on dates with have even suggested that having sex would make her run even faster. Seriously.
Most hadn’t heard her until this story broke–part of a multi-part interview series prepping the USofA for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Jones has opened up to state that holding on to her virginity is far more difficult than training for the Olympics. She certainly didn’t foresee being 29, unmarried and virginal, but for anyone who has sacrificed to achieve, you’re well aware that some things get put on the back burner…and then they’re all but forgotten. Then they start to burn…if you’re pickin’ up what I’m layin’ down.
Beyond the whole sex issue, Lolo Jones is a fascinating woman. She grew up poor in Iowa, and began to enjoy her first tastes of success on the track. She’s yet another story of odds being stacked against her, and continuing to persevere. She grew to be 5’9″, scored a scholarship offer to LSU where she excelled in all things track related, and with a dose of post-collegiate patience, she has become one of the finest 100m hurdlers in the world.
