Chris Andersen Extortion Rumors Add Layer Of Complexity To Child Porn Case

Perhaps the media was too quick to label Chris “Birdman” Andersen of the Denver Nuggets a pervert. Though it appears it is true that property in his home was seized by authorities as part of a child porn investigation, more details have emerged that paint a far more complicated picture.

The latest rumor to emerge involves a female fan of Andersen (some might call her a groupie) and a case of extortion. Though no details have been confirmed, the story goes that Andersen was mailed photos of a scantily clad young female back in 2010. Allegedly, Andersen believed that this woman was 21 because she indentified herself that way.

When Andersen didn’t give the woman the attention that she was hoping for, she allegedly threatened to retaliate. Someone claiming to be that woman’s mother sent Andersen an email and made a number of financial demands. According to the Denver Post, that email demanded that Andersen “pay for everything on her Amazon wish list, 5K for her bedding stuff and her victoria secret wish list.”

The new information ends there, but it isn’t hard to piece together the missing details. Perhaps this woman was not 21, as she claimed to be, and decided to accuse Andersen of child pornography possession after she became upset at him not giving her attention/money.

If this is the case, Andersen may ultimately be exonerated. He has not yet been arrested or charged with any crime. Sadly, cases of extortion are not uncommon in the world of professional sports–though the element of child pornography certainly is unusual.
