Mick Jagger is the most talented raisin this side of the Sun-Maid brand. Having performed a couple of times with the Rolling Stones on Saturday Night Live as musical guests, the front-man and marketing genius will add another mark to his resume on May 19th: Host of Saturday Night Live.
In all fairness, Jagger has appeared in a couple of skits–including his portrayal of Keith Richards–and he has always held his own. In addition to writing some of the most recognizable songs in modern history, Mick Jagger is a showman. He is an entertainer. You don’t manage to sell out arenas for 50 years without having the ability to entertain.
I’ve gotta hand it to the whole team at SNL. They’ve listened to the desires of fans, and they’ve also pushed the envelope by taking some risks with hosts. Mick Jagger hosting the show is a combination of such. People will inevitably tune in whether they’re a fan of the show or not…much like when Betty White hosted.
The show has released a statement that Jagger will perform musically, but they’re remaining rather vague in regards to details. Which is probably because they don’t know anymore than the rest of us do. I certainly know I’m intrigued, and I’m really curious where the writers go with his monologue. I’m just hopeful that Andy Samberg has a digital-short something planned for the rock legend.
