The White House Correspondents dinner is such a weird event. The country’s most powerful people (and also Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian, for some reason) get together in a room and break each other’s balls for a few hours. It happens annually, but I never get used to hearing the President pretty much do stand-up comedy.
Watching George W. Bush try to tell jokes was excruciating at times, but Barack Obama has a natural flair for it. Though he lacks the polish of a professional comedian, his comic timing is impressive. Obviously, he isn’t writing his own material, but no one can really blame him for not doing so because he’s the freakin’ leader of the free world.
At the 2012 White House Correspondents dinner, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, Obama once again shined. Some are even saying that he was better than Kimmel. He directed jokes at many different targets, including Mitt Romney, Donald Trump and the Secret Service. And, in typical Obama fashion, he has some self-deprecating jokes, too (he even brought up the fact that he ate a dog when he was a child).
